The results are in . . .

I just got back from the doctor and the results of my MRI are in.

The good news is that I don’t have a stress fracture. But, I do have stress reactions aka “Chronic Repetitive Stress Injury of the Bone” (precursors to fractures) in both my 3rd and 4th metatarsals. It is a good thing that I shut my training down when I did or it could have progressed to a full fledged stress fracture.

The bad news is that I have a lot of other things wrong with my foot/ankle that will still require an additional 3 weeks in the boot to heal.

These include:

  • Incomplete healing from my ankle sprain back on June 24th. This was probably the trigger for everything leading up to now;
  • Sprains of my 3rd and 4th metatarsophalangeal joints; and
  • Degeneration of the hallus-sesamoid complex (beginning to develop arthritis in my big toe joint)

In order to get things fully healed and back to normal I will be spending the next 3 weeks in the boot. That will give me 4 weeks of total boot time. It could have been far, far worse.

But, once again my take away from this experience. . . stop training when you get hurt.

One day I may even listen to my own advice.

At least this time I shut myself down before something really bad happened.

Here comes 3 or 4 weeks of upper body and core strength training.

  1. I just caught up on your other posts. I don’t know why I didn’t see them on my reader. I’m sorry about your injury. I know they are frustrating and it feels bad not being able to be your normal active self. But heal up! Sometimes we ignore symptoms so I’m glad you finally went in and got checked out!
